The question of whether Mexico City is safe for tourists in 2025 is very relevant now, considering the increased foot traffic we are witnessing across Latin America. The short answer is, YES- you will be able to access Mexico CITY, and explore everything it has to offer - but with informed safety precautions. Mexico City is a big, fun, lively, vibrant, and massive city that is full of art, history, culture, and food. The local government still invests a lot in tourism infrastructure and police focus on tourist areas - this means that currently, it is probably as safe as it has ever been. To put it plainly, areas like Roma, Condesa, Polanco, or Coyoacán- these are safe areas to visit in Mexico. That said, petty crimes can happen, especially with the chaos of markets or the crowds in public transportation. But just remember that petty crimes are usually the most annoying, and unfortunate - but are not typically or often violent crimes. If you are going to be careful, alert, aware of your environment, aware of your things, avoiding dark and empty areas at night, avoiding scams, and using safe transport (Uber, registered taxi, etc)- you will be ok. So, is Mexico City safe? Yes- for the vast majority of tourists.
