Polyhouse farming is a part of greenhouse farming. The structure is covered with transparent or semi-transparent polythene around the field. Polyhouse Farming is a climate controlled method of modern agriculture that allows farmers to control humidity and temperature according to the needs of the crop. It protects crops from environmental conditions like wind, heavy rain, and exposure to sunlight. It can be large or small, depending on the budget and field area.

Types of Polyhouse farming

The method is categorised into three parts based on technology, climate control, and shape.

An environment-controlled method is more popular than other methods. It is also divided into two parts: Naturally Ventilated and environmentally controlled.

First is a traditional type of polyhouse technique that features climatically controlled conditions, including drip irrigation systems, foggers, pest control systems, and ventilation control. They control the entirely climate and temperature created by farmers.

The second is the modern method, which features additional functions that control humidity and temperature.

Important factors and components of a polyhouse

Polythene is a crucial component in polyhouse farming. It is made up of transparent or semi-transparent material that is tight, cheap, and flexible.

The heating and cooling system is covered with jute around polythene to create a warm temperature and adequate ventilation, and to remove internal air from the polyhouse for the cooling system.
